Banking Services Specialist

Perform day to day administrative support activities and maintain the sales function between the client and Trust, Investment, Insurance, Private Client Services and lending departments. Responsible for handling client transactions, responding to and resolving routine and complex client inquiries and gathering and inputting information related to client lending. Effectively assist clients by recognizing needs and cross selling bank products; follow through by opening new accounts in an efficient manner. Responsibilities may include handling a cash drawer and balancing daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Strong knowledge of all bank products and services, to include features and benefits; ability to recognize customer needs and cross-sell products to meet those needs. Must be able to present various options and suggestions that best fit the needs of each client
  • Prepare necessary documents to open new accounts and maintain accounts based on customer’s specific needs-to include modifications, check orders, and resolutions
  • Awareness of competing bank’s products, promotions, and operations, and to effectively make recommendations to gain strength within that market
  • Assist clients with loan-related questions and processes. Must be able to prepare loan clients for what to expect during the loan application process and uncover opportunities for further exploration
  • Ability to open, redeem, and calculate interest on Certificates of Deposit
  • Responsible for identifying, researching, analyzing and resolving complex problems with client accounts
  • Screen incoming calls, determine criticality and importance of both caller and message and determine appropriate next steps
  • Willingness to show empathy and compassion when assisting customers with questions or problems
  • Compose/type and disseminate detail communications to internal and external clients using email, print or fax. Ensure that appropriate precautions are maintained regarding confidential information
  • Create various reports, charts and documents using information supplied from team members
  • Display and maintain professional approach in handling all client contact via phone, email and in person at all times
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and may train others on products, services, departmental systems and related technology, policies and procedures
  • May participate in bank’s referral program, sales programs, sales campaigns, and sales training
  • May be expected to meet specific sales and referral goals on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or yearly basis
  • Other duties as assigned
  • High School diploma or General Education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of three (3) years retail banking experience (teller and platform) required
  • Minimum of one (1) year opening new accounts, sales and operations required
  • Must be able to understand basic concepts relating to Trust, Investments and Financial Planning
  • Excellent understanding of banking transactions, deposit, mortgage and credit products
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent customer service skills, highly motivated, focused and goal oriented
  • Ability to build and expand quality internal and external client relationships
  • High level of proficiency is necessary for Word, Excel, Internet navigation/research, and Outlook
